Get involved!

With 55 libraries in Auckland, there are a whole lot of different things going on across the city to try out. Have a look at what’s out there – but if you’ve got something you’d love your local library to run, from study groups or book clubs to regular meet-ups with other gamers, writers, coders, artists, crafters (you name it), then have a word with your local librarians to see if they can help. (You could also post a comment here, or get in touch on the Fuse Facebook page.) That’s exactly how some of the groups below got started!

Teen clubs

Each club is a bit different, from getting a first look at the latest release books, to talking about apps, music, doing challenges, competitions and other fun stuff:

• Teen book club at Remuera Library
• Teen book group at Mt Roskill Library
• Reading Krew at Te Matariki Clendon Library
• Ace of Clubs at Mangere Bridge Library
• Teen jam at Glen Eden Library
• Youth hour at Pakuranga Library

Gaming clubs

• Youth gaming club at Manukau Library
• Regular board gaming nights at New Lynn Library and Otara Library (and Sunday afternoon board gaming at Botany Library)
• Magic: the gathering clubs at Whangaparaoa Library and Pukekohe Library
• Warhammer club at Orewa Library
• Minecraft clubs at East Coast Bays Library and Waitakere Central Library, Henderson
• Chess lessons at Epsom Library and ‘Chess for success’ at Avondale Library
• Plus, play around with making your own games at the Central City Library Makerspace, with game-making hangouts, workshops – or just drop by during the free-use times to tinker with games software, 3D printing and more.
