10 Spooktacular Flicks !

Ah woooooooo !!! That's my spooky ghost "Hello" since its almost Halloween!

I can adamantly say that I do not like scary movies. BUT I really like watching them on All Hallows Eve and eating heaps of chocolate and chippies in order to help me manage my heebie jeebies.

Here is my list of favourite Halloween flicks that are not too scary but are tons of fun, so suit me perfectly!

1) Hocus Pocus - Three outlandishly wild witches return from 17th century Salem and to hold on to their
immortality they must sacrifice a child. The three kids who accidentally resurrected them do everything they can to foil the witches plans. This movie is one from my childhood that I love to watch every year. It'll fill your Halloween with laughs!

2) The Craft - Unfortunately we don't have this one in the library anymore, but if you can track down a copy it is well worth a watch! I love this film, which is aptly described in Teen Vogue as being about "a group of '90s teenage witches who spend their time wearing knee-high socks and chokers, performing love spells, and being generally flawless. Until their magic takes control of them and they start accidentally-on-purpose murdering people". It's basically Mean Girls, but spookier.

3) Beetlejuice - Another classic, Beetlejuice is about a couple who, after dying in a car crash, are told they must stay as ghosts in their house for 150 years. Which is all well and good until the house is sold and they can't stand the people who move in! They hire Beetlejuice, the afterlife's bio-exorcist, to rid the house of these humans. Unfortunately they get more than they bargained for as Beetlejuice makes it his priority to marry their daughter instead.

4) The Nightmare Before Christmas (this one I love because its also a Christmas movie!) - Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, is bored with doing the same thing every year for Halloween. One day he stumbles into Christmas Town, and is so taken with the idea of Christmas that he tries to get the resident bats, ghouls, and goblins of Halloween town to help him put on Christmas instead of Halloween - but unfortunately, they just can't get it quite right!

5) Gremlins - Billy Peltzer's father buys him a new cuddly pet. But heed these three warnings: Don't ever get him wet. Keep him away from bright light. And the most important thing, the one thing you must never forget: no matter how much he cries, no matter how much he begs...never, never feed him after midnight. Insanity ensues!!

6) Scream (R16) - The peaceful town of Woodsboro becomes a place where no one is safe, when an anonymous killer starts taking their love of scary movies too far. To survive, everyone must follow the golden horror movie rules - don't answer the phone, don't answer the door, don't leave the house and most of all don't scream! This movie was the first scary movie I ever watched (sneakily borrowing my sister's vhs while she was out of the house!) and is as hilarious as it is scary. I also can't not mention the amazing floral prints and mid-90s fashion!

7) Edward Scissorhands - Johnny Depp in his first Tim Burton flick! "Once upon a time in a castle high on a hill lived an inventor whose greatest creation was named Edward. Although Edward had an irresistible charm, he wasn't quite perfect. The inventor's sudden death left him unfinished, with sharp shears of metal for hands.Edward lived alone in the darkness until one day a kind Avon Lady took him home to live with her family. And so began Edward's fantastic adventures in a pastel paradise known as Suburbia."

8) Sleepy Hollow -Another Tim Burton and Johnny Depp collab - "An eccentric investigator is sent to the small New York town of Sleepy Hollow to find out who is committing grisly murders there." This one has Christina Ricci which is just another bonus!

9) Labyrinth - This Movie. It is almost beyond description it is so weird and wonderful. "Sarah, left to babysit her young brother, wishes he would disappear. So the Goblin King whisks him away to his Goblin Castle. Between Sarah and the Castle stands the labyrinth, where all sorts of endearing, tricky and delightfully mischievous creatures lurk."

10) Paranormal Activity (R16) - The premise is simple: A young couple move into a house, begin to hear things that go bump in the night, and document the supernatural activity with a home camera. The results? Pure suspenseful terror.

Happy Halloween everyone!!!!
