Recommendation: 'The naturals' by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Cassandra "Cassie" Hobbes is not your average teenager, at just seventeen she is able to read people more accurately than professional profilers with years in the business. With just a casual glance Cassie can figure out if one of her customers is going to order their eggs sunny side up or scrambled - a talent that has brought her to the attention of a very special part of the FBI.  The naturals programme brings together young people gifted with the crime busting skills it takes some people decades to achieve - skills that can be carefully crafted and guided to make them the ultimate special agents when they are old enough to join the FBI.

They are supposed to be honing their skills on cold cases, but Cassie soon finds herself drawn to a very fresh case, one that is leaving bodies littered across the States - a case that has alarming similarities to the disappearance (assumed murder) of her mother.  Unable to leave the case alone, Cassie finds herself pushing boundaries and dragging her housemates along for the ride.  The FBI wants her to leave the case alone, but they must have known that when you bring together a team of profilers, emotion readers, a human lie detector, and a human computer able to crunch huge amounts of data that nothing would stay off limits for long.

A tense thriller with a deftly crafted cast of quirky and intense characters that will keep you guessing to the end.
