Recommendation: 'The here and now' by Ann Brashares

Prenna James lives a life controlled by the rules of her insular community - don't seek medical help from the outside world, don't draw attention to yourself, avoid being captured in photos or movies, avoid places of worship  and most of all avoid intimate relations with time natives.  Prenna and her community live by these rules because they are not from our time, they are from a future time when the world has been ravaged by climate change and deadly plagues that have decimated the population.  The lucky few have come back in time to a place of safety while they work towards saving their future - but when you are not supposed to change the future it makes it difficult to save it.

Struggling against the strict rules and boundaries of her world, Prenna seems on the edge of doom - one step away from the community "dealing" with her in a permanent fashion.  Then Prenna makes a mind blowing discovery and learns that a dark secret lurks under the veneer of her "perfect" world, and that things are not as they seem - people who should be protecting them all are telling lies and trying to control the whole community.  Breaking away from all she has known Prenna sets off to try and save the future the only way she knows how, with a time native along for the ride.  Thrown together by circumstance, Prenna and Ethan are about to face some life threatening situations - and Prenna will realise the most heart breaking truth of all.

A thought provoking science fiction novel that takes time travel and turns it on its ear to create a thoroughly engrossing read that will keep you reading in one sitting until the last page.
