Recommendation: 'The Selection' by Kiera Cass

The Selection by Kiera Cass

Welcome to Ilea, where the population knows its place and stays in its place. America Singer is a Five, one of the people who performs for the social tiers above, an employee to be heard and not seen. The one highlight of her life is her secret love Aspen, who for the past two years has promised to marry America one day so they can be together – the only problem is Aspen is a Six and there is no way America’s mother would allow them to marry, so they keep their love a secret. When America is chosen as part of the Selection for the young and eligible Prince Maxon, she is whisked away to the Palace where she and 34 other girls will be groomed, trained, and paraded for the Prince. Isolated from other girls because of her tier Five status, and at a lower tier than most of the girls from the Selection, America struggles to find her place within the group. When rebel forces attack the palace America stays, but she is risking more than just her life – she is also risking her heart. With Aspen left at home, and Prince Maxon seeking her out, America may be forced to make a choice between the person who has held her heart for the last two years, and the man who may hold her heart for the rest of her life.
