The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore Imag•N•O•Tron Teaser (Now with Story-O-Scope) from Moonbot Studios on Vimeo.

Is an award winning short film that is also features in 2 apps for ipad, and a beautiful picture book.

The story itself of course has an appeal to children, the careful storytelling, and beautifully woven story is as iTunes describes:
“Inspired, in equal measures, by Hurricane Katrina, Buster Keaton, The Wizard of Oz, and a love for books, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is a poignant, humorous allegory about the curative powers of story.”

The appeal it has to myself as a Big Kid lies not only in the beautifully woven story, but the nostalgia of finding a book that transports the reader to a place in another time and space, and I couldn’t help but wait for toto the dog to jump out at me at any minute. Sadly there are no miniature dogs in this story. There is however a delightful book that features a Humpty Dumpty that intices Mr. Lessmore to follow him.

Add to the excitement of the short film and picture book; we have the iPad apps and Moonbot Studios were onto something. “The Fantastic flying books of Mr. Morris Lessmore” app adds another dimension, of course through moving image, narration and mini activities throughout the story. If that wasn’t enough, app creators Moonbot Studios have also released “The IMAG•N•O•TRON” app which works by placing your iPad over the open book in order to bring the story to life! Literally! OMG this is every kid… and big kids dream come true.

If you haven’t guessed yet, I am a sucker for gimmicks – let’s face it we all are! And these apps have just made this beautiful book so much more a favourite on my bookshelf.
