Recommendation: 'Trafficked' by Kim Purcell

Trafficked by Kim Purcell
Since her parents died Hannah has lived with her grandmother, their life is not easy but at least they have each other. When Hannah is given the chance to move to America it almost seems too good to be true, and her life in America is very different to her life in Moldova, but it is also not what it seems. The family she works for has all these different rules, and after her trip to the family home from the airport she becomes a prisoner in the home, working long days for pay that never seems to appear. There is a deeper mystery too, how does the father know her missing uncle and can he really help her find him? Trafficked is a gritty real life read, a story of modern day slavery and a young woman who must find the courage to save herself before it is too late. This story will not appeal to everyone, and is best suited to older readers as it can be difficult to read at times, but it is well worth the read to open your eyes to a hidden world that is just below the surface of our modern lives – a world where a person can be sold into slavery without their knowledge or consent.
