Recommendation: 'Grave mercy. by Robin LaFevers

Grave mercy by Robin LaFevers
Ismae is a daughter of Mortain, the god of death. Carrying his mark from birth, Ismae has had a hard life, until she ends up in the convent of St. Mortain – where she learns the tricks and tools of death, becoming a handmaiden of death. It is a life she gives herself to freely, accepting the guidance of the convent, and the marques that Mortain himself uses to mark those who are to die. But when she is sent to the court of the future Duchess of Brittany, Ismae learns that life is not as simple as she thought, and that those who deserve to die do not always wear the marque of death. As the conspiracy around the Duchess drags Ismae deeper and deeper into a web of lies and deceipt, she finds herself drawing closer and closer to Gavriel Duval – a man that her convent marks for death. Ismae must choose between the growing love she has for Duval, and the vows that she made to her god and her convent. Can she find a way to honour her vows and her heart? - Em, library staff
