Introducing Scott O'Dell

Scott O'Dell specialised in historical fiction - particularly American history. His most famous novel is Island of the blue dolphins – which won the Newbery Medal in 1961 – best American children’s / young adults’ novel of the year.

Among his claims to fame – Scott was a cameraman on the Oscar-winning classic movie ‘Ben Hur’.

In 1984, Scott established the Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction.
