Introducing 'Weetzie Bat' by Francesca Lia Block

Weetzie Bat by Francesca Lia Block

I don't know about happily ever after… but I know about happily, Weetzie Bat thought.

Who is Weetzie Bat? Difficult to say really. A fictional creation of Francesca Lia Block, in the first instance.

She entered the world in 1989 in the eponymous novel set in Shangri-LA – in a modern, urban, fairy tale. The setting is dreamlike, but the situations are real. Weetzie Bat’s grandmother gives her a magic lamp and Weetzie Bat makes her wishes. And they come true.

Along the way there’s sadness and happiness. A witch baby. A curse. And love.

Check out this trailer for more clues.

You can read Weetzie’s stories in:

  • Weetzie Bat
  • Witch baby
  • Cherokee Bat and the Goat Guys
  • Missing Angel Juan
  • Baby be-bop
  • Dangerous angels (omnibus of all five novellas)
  • Necklace of kisses – Weetzie Bat turns 40 [in adult fiction]
  • Not for the fainthearted and recommended for older teens.
