Recommendation: 'The hundred thousand kingdoms' by NK Jemisin

The hundred thousand kingdoms by N. K. Jemisin

First off, this is the first book in a series of books but you do not have to read the next one for the story to be complete, each book is stand-alone but just in the same universe. The second thing is this book is a little heavy in some places but still a very good read.

I am not big on fantasy worlds but this book was very different to anything I had ever read before. It has Gods in human form, snotty upper class men and an awesome heroine. Yeine Darr is the leader of a barbarian tribe and is called into the city of Sky to take her place as one of the next heirs to the throne when her mother dies. Little does she know that she is entering a world where even her own family are out to kill her to get the throne. There in Sky, Yeine meets some of the old Gods trapped in human bodies and learns of their plot to be free and gets tangled up in the middle of it as she is the key.

Heartbreaking in some places, compelling to read and ends on such a big twist I am sure you will want to order the next book ( I know I have). Four stars from me.
