Recommendation: 'Arrival' by Chris Morphew

Arrival by Chris Morphew.

Luke and his mum have moved to the isolated community of Phoenix as part of her new role with the Shackleton Co-operative. Phoenix is not only isolated, it also appears really backward with bicycles for transport, no phones, no internet, and no television except for the lame local station. But there is something sinister happening in Phoenix, something that is hidden below the surface of the perfect façade that is shown to the residents of the town. Things are strange enough for Luke, but along with his new friends Jordan and Peter, he is about to discover that the world as they know it has only 100 days to live. After the 100 days are up the world beyond Phoenix will change forever – and everyone they love on the outside will be gone forever, including the father that Luke is desperate to contact.

This is a fast-paced action adventure with a dash of mystery and conspiracy theory. Luke and his friends push the boundaries at break neck speed, getting themselves into and out of trouble as they try and discover the mystery at the heart of Phoenix. What they discover will change their lives, and lead to more questions as danger threatens the whole world. This is the first book in a series of six, and currently there are three titles available – the first told from Luke’s perspective, the second from Peter’s, and the third from Jordan’s.

This is a very readable series and should appeal to a wide audience – I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and hope that Chris Morphew can keep up the suspense and drama of this series until the end.

A four (and a half) star read.
